Valley View Softball is looking to get hot at the right time

May 8, 2018

When you are young, the ceiling is extremely high. That’s the case for the Valley View Cougars softball team. “We are only going to get better”, says Head Coach E.J. Weston. Weston has been a softball coach for Valley View for 22 years. He spent 7 years as the Cougars Junior Varsity Head Coach and has now been the Varsity coach for the last 14 years.

Last year the Cougars Varsity team went 17-4 and lost in the 2nd round of districts.

This year they are not off to the greatest start partially because of the inconsistent weather. They are 3-3. “Our biggest strengths are playing as a team, staying together, and having a lot of trust in one another”, says Coach Weston. A lot of trust always goes along way.

The Cougars have 2 freshman starting pitcher, but also have a couple seniors that lead the way. Senior Jen Nguyen is the starting 2nd baseman and leadoff hitter and senior Kira Sebastanelli is the 1st basemen. “With our 2 leaders, consistency is the key and maintaining it, is the goal”, says coach about his two leaders.

It has been a rough start to the season, but hopefully with some games under their belts, they can finally hit their stride. When asked about the team’s philosophy coach said “be as aggressive as possible while being fundamentally sound and most importantly being a team and playing as a family”.
