Misericordia Men's Lacrosse has another tremendous season, Cougars fall 17-14 to Eastern in Freedom Conference Finals

May 7, 2018

Misericordia University is coming off their 1st ever men’s lacrosse conference championship. Loaded with seniors, 15 to be exact, the team continues to find success in 2018. They dominate with a very aggressive defense and a hard to handle fat pace offense. Only one team this year has been able to slow them down and it took maybe the greatest performance by a goalie ever. Eastern gave Misericordia their first loss this season. The score was 11-3, but don’t let the score fool you. The Cougars were ‘shut out’ 25 times. Unheard of in a game where 10 saves is a lot.

Head Coach Jim Ricardo is in his 16th season with Misericordia’s men’s lacrosse. “This is the most successful senior class ever”, says Coach Ricardo. With this many seniors, there are bound to be some record breaking career milestones. Senior captain Patrick Kellish broke the point’s record in a career and set the record for most goals scored in team history. Senior captain Chris Fleming is only a couple points away from 200 in a career.

Last year the Cougars went 11-4. They won the school’s 1st ever conference championship and also won the first ever NCAA playoff game for the MAC Freedom Conference. The Cougars would lose to the eventual National champion in the next game.

This year the Cougars have been very dominant and if it wasn’t for an outstanding performance by a goalie, they would be undefeated. “Work hard, believe in each other, and be relentless”, says coach Rickard about the team’s philosophy. They have all the experience in the world and enjoyed a successful season.
