Dallas Area will take on Abington Heights for District 2 AAAAA Championship Sunday at 7pm

March 3, 2018

The Dallas Mountaineers Boys Basketball program is on the rise. Two years ago, Mark Belenski took over as the head coach.  In a short time, Mark Belenski has led the Mounts to a 20-4 overall record.

Dallas is possibly on the cusp of winning the school’s first district title in 34 years. It is no surprise that everything is falling in place for the Mountaineers. Besides Coach Belenski’s great coaching, the Mounts have 10 seniors on the team that have been playing together since 7th grade. That kind of camaraderie is hard to come by. “The team’s biggest strength is their bond”, says Coach Belenski.

The team has a lot of heart and are very tenacious. According to Coach, “the team’s philosophy is to work hard, be fundamental, and be respectful.” Because of this philosophy, 2018 will be the first time Dallas has made the State tournament since 2008.

If the Mountaineers win the district championship this weekend, the Mounts will play the District 3 (8th seed) and if they lose, they will play the 4th seed out of District 3 in the tournament. This has been an outstanding turn around for the program.  Mark Belenski has made the Mountaineers a perennial contender in just 3 years. This season could truly be one of the best in Mountaineer Basketball History.
