Misericordia University Baseball has a problem. Well, according to Head coach Pete Egbert, it’s a very good problem to have. The Cougars are very deep at pitching, 9 deep to be exact. He considers this to be the true strength for the 7 time defending Mid Atlantic conference champs.
“There is a huge target on our backs” says Coach Egbert. Every team surely gives them their best considering they have won the conference 7 years in a row.
They are very athletic and have a ton of flexibility in the batting lineup. “6 or 7 guys can bat leadoff or clean up if need be”, Coach Egbert speaks very highly of his team. There will be 25 returning players after a year that saw them go 30-14.
Freshman Ian McCole had knee surgery and junior pitcher Mike Turton had surgery. Both Turton and McCole have uphill climbs ahead of them but Coach Egbert definitely seems optimistic. 2 years ago, Turton played a huge role in the pitching rotation as he started when the cougars where in regionals. Coach Egbert says he is very excited to see McCole and Turton in action.
There are definitely a lot of things to like about the upcoming Misericordia Cougars Baseball season that starts on February 24th. The team seems to be in a very good spot and another conference title is very much in view and maybe even a deep push into regionals.
